National Family Week (31 st May to 6 th June)

KRS ran a fun family reading session to celebrate National Family Week. It was wonderful to see so many family members have fun by using a Nintendo DS for reading, looking at the Greenaway winning novels and looking through magazines. All family members received a free book, magazine, bookmark and joined up for the KRS home reading scheme.

Family Sessions

Since February 2010 we have been running a family English Session. Family members of 7G3 have been supporting their child by attending a monthly English Session.

All the family members involved have been very supportive. They have undertaken reading and writing activities with their child. The sessions have been informal and fun.

Thanks to some funding from The Family learning Department at Portsmouth City Council we have been able to provide a free book for each of the students. Students are then able to build their own, home, reading library

Family members have been shown how to improve their child’s reading skills and take part in a home reading scheme.

Due to the success of the family sessions we are going to extend the programme and a further 3 classes will get the opportunity to become involved.

Tracey James
Head Teacher of Functional Skills.
